Volvo PV 444 A Introduction

Volvo PV444 was the first unitary body design and it was also the first four-cylinder engine automobile from Volvo. The first PV444s were endowed with a three main bearing, overhead valve, 1.4 liter engine of a stout design; induction was courtesy of a single downdraft carburetor.

The Volvo PV444 and PV544 were nearly identical car models, produced in the period of 1947 to 1965. In this era Volvo got a reputation for manufacturing fine automobiles from 1927 with the OV 4, which enhanced Volvo's reputation for building solid durable cars that were a delight to drive commenced with introduction of the PV444's series models.

The PV444's series models were winding down the production in 1958, at that time new model PV544 was just introduced. It was the more updated and more modern version of the PV444, the PV544 with a larger rear window and convex windscreen. Thus a old-fashioned PV 444 replaced by the PV 544 modernized and tuned up version of 444.
